Shaping Up Like Jeffry Schneider With Meditation and Wellness

When I went through a particularly stressful month of meetings with my leadership team, I knew that I needed a new solution to achieve a balanced lifestyle. I like to think that I do have healthy habits, but being a business corporate guy always leaves room for improvement. That’s why I decided to write about the need for having a total wellness plan in your life. You always have to up the efforts that you make for that finding that elusive work-life balance.

Why You Need a Wellness Plan

I sit back and look at my life and realize that I can pick different techniques from health, diet, and exercise experts and then incorporate them into my own wellness plan. In my plan, I define that I need good eating, sleeping, recreation, and stress management habits. I also need to use moderation in terms of vices like alcohol, caffeine, and dessert consumption. In my life, there was definitely missing enough time for focusing on mental wellness. By this, I mean that I go running and do the occasional yoga session, but I don’t really stop to relax enough or ponder my short-term and long-term goals. My mind has all that clutter that most harried working people keep on their plates throughout the year. Then, I discovered that it’s easy to download apps on your smartphone that will effortless manage your custom wellness plan. I chose an app called Calm, which alerts me to engage in regular meditation. What’s more, I get to choose what kind of meditation, how long it will last, what breathing pattern I will use, and what kind of music or sound will be playing in the background.

Moving Forward

Wellness is something that we have to focus on as a short-term objective and as a lifelong habit. For example, we can keep eating right and meditating, we can keep all of our doctors’ appointments and take our medicines daily, but we can stop exercising and soon feel stressed out. For example, if you stop workouts, you might lose cardiovascular capacity and muscle tone. Your body can quickly change from a finely-tuned machine to an awkward version of yourself. This can affect your general health, your energy level, your body image, and the productivity that you achieve in most life activities. Without exercise, you might begin to feel sluggish at work and want to sleep more to avoid feeling depressed. This means that something (whether it’s meditation, exercise, proper eating, or even taking a vacation) is missing. You feel off-kilter. You want to change up your habits to feel great again!

I like to think that research can point us to why we need a wellness plan for our own personal lives and to develop programs that will help employees be healthy, happy, and well, too. A Forbes 2017 survey viewed risk management as an indicator of heightened company performance, competitive advantage, and enhanced brand reputation. If you aren’t engaging in your own risk management through wellness planning, you could be overlooking important threats to your longevity. If you want to be the best you can be, why not tweak your wellness program and add more or less of each habit such as meditation to be your best? Get ready for success with a balanced approach!
