Ubuntu Education Fund Programme
Ubuntu Education Fund is a non-profit organization which was founded in 1999 by Jacob Lief and Malizole “Banks” Gwaxula. At this time, it was a small charity focusing only on distributing educational supplies and ensuring their availability. The founders then became aware of other serious problems like hunger and HIV which hindered children from reaching their full potential through education. This realization prompted them to expand their reach to include home stability, health, and nutrition.
Ubuntu Education Fund is now a program that offers world-class health and educational support to vulnerable and orphaned of Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Its mission is to help raise township children by providing them with everything they deserve.
Ubuntu’s Fund Gala Night
The 10th annual Ubuntu’s Education Fund gala dinner was held in London. Its aim was to raise funds to aid in expanding students’ capacity at the Ubuntu Education Fund at Port Elizabeth Campus. Part of the money would also be directed to help improve the pediatric clinic associated with the campus, and also open doors for more disadvantaged children in the local area.
The evening was graced with speeches from two special guests who had in the past, received help from the fund. During the gala, there was an auction presided by British auctioneer Charlie Ross, aimed at selling items to raise capital for the fund. The evening was finalized with a speech by Founder and CEO Jacob Lief.
