Talos Energy Is Leveraging A New Opportunity In The Mexican Energy Industry

New reforms in the Mexican energy sector have seen it open up an otherwise restricted industry to foreign players. These reforms are part of the measures being undertaken by the Mexican government to revive an otherwise ailing sector. The new developments have opened up the industry to other to competition from other foreign companies.

One group that has sought to take advantage of the reforms is the Dallas-based oil and gas exploration firm known as Talos Energy. This enterprise has partnered together with two other players namely Premier Oil Plc from London and Sierra Oil & Gas to drill the first offshore well in Sureste Basin off the coast of Tabasco state. The well goes into the history books as the first one to be drilled by a different business entity other than the state-run Petroleos Mexicanos.

The well that Talos Energy is drilling is called Zama – 1 and has the potential to generate between 100 million and 500 million barrels of crude oil during its lifespan. Zama well is touted as one of the most attractive wells to be drilled in the Mexican oil and gas sector this year. The structure of the Surestse basin on which Zama is drilled suggests that the project will yield the expected amount of crude oil.

According to the joint venture between Talos and her partners, Talos Energy will operate the well and its stake in the venture is capped at 35%. Sierra and Premier hold the remaining stake at 40 and 25 percent sharing, respectively.

Jay Z almost Sealing a Deal with Live Nation

Jay Z is almost sealing his $150 million landmark deal with Live Nation, and now he is sounding out to the other bigwigs in the music industry about considering a stake at Roc Nation. Jay singed a 10-year deal worth $150 million in 2008. The “360 deal” will be up next year and could trigger a “buy-sell”. This means that either side may sell their stakes in Roc Nation or purchase the firms outright. According to sources, Live Nation hopes to keep on with its lucrative touring deal, but it will be backing out of recorded music side.

A music insider claimed that the 360 deal between Jay and Live Nation is not going to be extended. This is because Live Nation had only purchased Jay’s recorded music and rights, but any of those relationships were not going to be extended. The insider stressed that Live Nation had already opted out from the business of purchasing recorded music. However, he added that the company has an established touring relationship with Jay Z, which is worthwhile. It is popularly believed that Live Nation wishes the relationship to go on for many years.

Jay, together with Desiree Perez, who is an executive of Roc Nation, met with the CEO and chairman of the Universal Music Group, Sir Lucian Grainge. This meeting sparked speculations that UMG was planning to buy stakes in Roc Nation. Such a move could provide Jay with more resources that will enable him to develop new artists. UMG insiders claimed that the firm already maintains a distribution deal with the Roc Nation.
